Why I joined Apollo
Project 1
My first project for Apollo was about The Jones town Massacre. I found the information so interesting and the idea of people blindly following a leader interesting. For English I tried to show what it might be like from A victims perspective by creating a poem describing the confusion and sadness and faithfulness they had. For History I wrote an essay explaining the process of obtaining the land in Guyana for Jones town and the part the Guyanese government played in it. I also tried to share a little information about the church and what the people hoped to find in this community in Guyana. Finally for art i created tweets that Jim Jones would possibly use to gain all of his followers trust and his need to have people see him as their leader. An example of contextualization I tried to use in my project was to write the poem with the perspective in mind of someone who was a member and active participant in Jones town someone who was struggling as a member of the church. In my history essay I used contextualization to paint a picture of Jim Jones and his growing ministry and their growth before moving to Guyana. For my art project I chose to contextualize Jim Jones tweets by analyzing his words and comparing his tweets to president trumps tweets. I tried to show the similarities in their language . They both shows signs of narcissism and autocratic leadership style.

Project 3
Project 3 has been my favorite project to work on. The topic I chose was Maternal deaths in Sudan and Afghanistan. I picked Sudan and Afghanistan because they are the countries with the highest rates of maternal deaths. I was able to find many statistics and articles about the topic . During my research I found that women living in Poverty are at the greatest risk for dying. The most shocking thing about my research is that most of these women are dying from preventable causes.
For my History project I wrote a paper describing the risk factors leading to these deaths. I discussed how things like poverty, education, politics, women's rights , access to trained doctors, and lack of medication cause the large number of women dying in these countries. I used inductive reasoning to put theses factors in order of how much they affected the lives of the women.
For my English project I wrote an argumentative essay. My argument was that poverty is the leading cause of maternal deaths. I researched and was able to support my argument with facts, and statistics. For my opposing argument I found an article written that talked about the age of the mother being the greatest factor affecting maternal deaths. I used reasoning to help me think about my topic in a logical way. Finally I ,provided facts, and gave examples to support my argument and prove the opposing argument wrong.
For my Art project I created a collage. I used different materials like, chains, magazine clipping and pills to create texture and represent the different things that cause maternal deaths. I drew a pregnant body and filled it in with the collage. I looked up the word mother (in Pashto the language spoken in Afghanistan) and included it in my artwork. I used chains to represent poverty, pills to represent lack of medication, and magazine clippings with the words doctor, access and women's rights. My collage was filled with many different materials to represent all the different things that need to be changed to save women's lives.
